#11 SAINTS CLOSE OUT CARUSO'S CLASSIC WITH A 9-1 WIN
Dahlonega, Ga. – For the final game of the Caruso's Classic, #11 North Georgia College & State University defeated Lindsey Wilson College 9-1 to finish 3-3 for the weekend. The Saints (14-9) got on the board in the third inning after senior second baseman Annie Ball singled in freshman right fielder Candace Shubert to give North Georgia a 1-0 lead. The Saints broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off of three hits. Sophomore designated hitter Bronwyn Miller drew a walk with the bases loaded to score senior pinch runner Niki Keith. A one out fielder's choice by junior short stop Lynsey Thompson scored two more runs and put the Saints up 4-0. In the sixth inning, the Blue Raiders (5-3) got on the board after senior short stop Whitney Reynolds knocked in junior pitcher Leigh Oakley . The run was the only one LWC would get on the evening. In the bottom half of the sixth inning, North Georgia scored five runs to finish the game. A couple of triples from junior first baseman Lara Seamon and senior catcher Katie Thrasher knocked in a couple of runs, and freshman third baseman Brittany Barnes scored the fifth run on a passed ball to finish the game off. Oakley picked up the loss after going three and a third innings and allowing six earned runs off of seven hits. Senior starter Beth Willis won her seventh game of the season after pitching six strong innings and allowing only one earned run and one hit while striking out seven. The Saints take to the field again on Tuesday as they travel to Reinhardt College to play in their second Southern States Athletic Conference series of the season.
