#1 SAINTS THUNDER PAST #4 LADY CANES 6-0
Rome, Ga. – For the second consecutive game, senior starter Beth Willis shutout an opponent as first seed North Georgia College & State University defeated fourth seed Georgia Southwestern State University 6-0 in round two off the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
Willis has pitched 12 consecutive innings in two games and has allowed only three hits while striking out 12 batters. The co-Pitcher of the Year in the SSAC improved her overall record to 26-4 on the season with the win.
Senior second baseman Annie Ball started the Saints (2-0) scoring off in the second inning with a home run over the centerfield wall. Ball led North Georgia at the plate after going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one runs scored. Junior first baseman Lara Seamon also performed well at the plate after going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one runs scored.
The Saints broke the game open the fourth inning after putting up four runs to make it a 5-0 game. A final run in the fifth inning gave North Georgia a little insurance as they won 6-0.
Willis got the win after pitching seven innings and scattering two hits while striking out eight batters. Lady Canes (1-1) starting pitcher Katrina Beach took the loss after pitching six innings and allowing five earned runs off of nine hits while striking out four.
The Saints advance to the semifinals of the winners bracket and to face second seed Lee University tonight for the opportunity to advance to the championship game. GSW will face seventh seed Brewton-Parker College in the second round of the loser's bracket this afternoon.
