SAINTS SOFTBALL IN POOL C FOR NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Decatur, Ala. – NAIA officials announced this weekend the pools for the NAIA National Softball Tournament beginning on May 20. Eighth ranked North Georgia College & State University will be in Pool C for the opening rounds of the tournament.
The Softball Championship will be a 20-team pool play tournament featuring the champions of 13 regions and seven at-large berths. Teams will be seeded 1-20 and divided into four pools of five teams based on the seeds. The top two teams of each pool will advance. This format guarantees a minimum of four games for each team. All games will be played at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex. All game times are central standard time.
The Saints received an at-large berth to the tournament after posting a 41-15 overall record and winning the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season championship and tournament championship. North Georgia is the only member of the SSAC representing the conference in the tournament, but three Region XIII schools are participating in the tournament this year. Along with the Saints, Thomas University and the University of Mobile will play in this year's championship.
Joining North Georgia in Pool C will be California Baptist University, Aquinas College, Point Loma Nazarene, and the University of Mary. Four of the five schools in the pool are ranked in the top 25 with California Baptist the top seed and a ranking of fourth in the nation.
The Saints will take on California Baptist in their first game of the tournament at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Georgia will then face Mary at 8:00 p.m. to finish out the first day of play. On Thursday, the Saints will play Point Loma at 3:00 p.m. and Aquinas at 8:00 p.m. All Pool C games will be played on Field 3 of the softball complex.
