NORTH GEORGIA FALLS TO 11th-RANKED SPARTANS
Saints return to action Monday afternoon
Spartanburg, S.C. - (AP) USC Upstate swept the doubles competition and the 11th-ranked Spartans blanked North Georgia 5-0 in Peach Belt Conference men’s tennis action Sunday at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Upstate improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Javier Tori and Sebastian Gonzales-Orbegoso claimed an 8-1 victory over Gustavo Carballal and Jake Eastwood at the No. 1 doubles position, Sandy Franz and Leandro Osorio defeated Samuel Moore and Marijn Bal, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot, and Renzo Airaldi and Arnaldo Lovera won, 8-0, at the No. 3 slot to give Upstate a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles action.
In singles play, Lovera defeated Eastwood in straight sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-4 at the No. 2 slot and Airaldi won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position to give Upstate the match. The other singles matches were not completed.
