NORTH GEORGIA SWEPT BY SHORTER IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Lady Saints and Saints both drop 7-2 decisions on road
ROME, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University fell to NAIA nationally-ranked Shorter College 7-2 in both men's and women's non-conference tennis action here late Monday afternoon.
In men's action, the Saints playing shorthanded, picked up victories at number three and number four singles. Gustavo Carballal picked up a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Henrique T. Tomaz at number three, while Vlad Lumezeanu defeated Shorter's David Araiza 6-4, 7-5 at number four. The Hawks, the 18th-ranked team in the NAIA, picked up wins at number one and two doubles, and number one, two and five singles. They also received walkover victories in number three doubles and number six singles.
In women's action, the Lady Saints fell to 16th-ranked Shorter, but not before picking up a pair of victories and narrowly missing out on two more. Amey Kearns and Jenny Bridges picked up victories in number five and number six singles, with Bridges defeating Kristy Walker 6-0, 6-2. The Lady Saints narrowly missed out on two more points, falling in number two and number three doubles 8-6, after being up in both matches 6-3.
North Georgia travels to Piedmont College on Tuesday for non-conference tennis action, a month after claiming 9-0 home victories over their opponent.
