SAINTS CLAIM VICTORY IN EXHIBITION CONTEST

Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University used two early goals in the first half to distance themselves from Truett-McConnell College, holding on to win their exhibition contest 2-0 at the NGCSU Soccer Complex.

Justin Strader took a pass from Michael Rodenby, and hit what looked to be a normal cross. Unfortunately for Truett-McConnell, the ball went over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Billy Hale for the game’s first goal in the 21st minute.

The Saints added their second goal in the 23rd minute on a header from Brent Staley. Staley, a defender up top for a corner kick, took the ball off a pass from Rodenby for the goal and a 2-0 North Georgia lead.

Brandon Kirksey and Vince Neal combined on the shutout in the exhibition contest.

Despite his team’s victory, head coach Todd Eason was still displeased with the effort.

“I didn’t feel the guys worked hard enough to win this game,” Eason said. “I still felt we lacked the desire to compete.”

The Saints open regular season play on the road at Mt. Olive, North Carolina in the Sleep Inn Classic this weekend, taking on the host school at 3:30 pm Saturday afternoon.
