NGCSU FALLS TO ST. ANDREWS
Mount Olive, NC – St. Andrews Presbyterian College used goal by four different players to down North Georgia College & State University, 4-1 in the final game of the Sleep Inn Classic.
The Knights struck first in the contest when Corey Abbott took a pass from Jamin Ferris on a restart from midfield in the 17th minute. Abbott chipped the ball over North Georgia goalkeeper Vince Neal. The Knights scored again, just five minutes later, when Marques Norwood took a pass in the box from Gabriel Ortiz in the 22nd minute for a 2-0 lead.
North Georgia was able to get on the scoreboard when Jeremy Bouasy took a turnover in the box by St. Andrews to put the ball in an open net in the 37th minute.
The game stayed 2-1 until the 59th minute when Justin Garton scored on a penalty kick, beating North Georgia keeper Brandon Kirksey.
Ortiz added the final goal of the game in the 85th minute when he took a pass from Josh Buck in the box and punched it by the Saints’ defense.
The Saints’ Matthew Powell was named to the All-Tournament team.
North Georgia (0-2-0) returns to action this weekend in Morrow, taking on Queen’s University of Charlotte on Friday night at 5 pm.
