SAINTS FALL TO QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE

Morrow, GA Matt Herbstritt scored two goals to lead Queens University of Charlotte to a 4-3 victory over North Georgia College & State University in the first game of the Clayton State tournament Friday evening.

The Saints jumped to an early 2-0 lead, on goals by Jeremy Bouasy and Joey Rector.  Bouasy scored in the fifth minute of the game, taking a pass from Sheldon Best on breakaway down the right side.  Rector put the Saints up 2-0 in the 25th minute, taking a pass from Ryan Whittington on a cross.

Queens answered with four consecutive goals, with Herbstritt scoring his first goal of the match, just 49 seconds after Rector’s goal.  Herbstritt took a pass from D.J. Short on the right side and beat Saints’ goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey.

The Royals added another goal five minutes later when David Palma scored from the right side in the 30th minute to equalize the match.  Queens took the lead in the 50th minute, when Herbstritt took another pass from Short and scored from 25 yards out.

The Royals added their final goal in the 68th minute when Logan Berrier scored off a pass from Thomas Righi.

North Georgia cut the lead to 4-3 in the 83rd minute when Matthew Powell beat Queens goalkeeper Dan Williams from 35 yards out on a free kick.

The game was marred by five cards being given, including a red card to Queens’ Chad Pinnick.

North Georgia (0-3-0) returns to action on Saturday, taking on Lees-McRae at 5 pm in Morrow.
