SAINTS FALL TO CLAYTON STATE
Five different players score for defending Peach Belt Conference champions
Dahlonega, GA - North Georgia College & State University could not overcome a three-goal halftime deficit, falling to defending Peach Belt Conference champion Clayton State University, falling 6-0 in the teams’ conference opener.
The game was scoreless until the 24th minute when Angel Kalinov took a pass from Hailab Habtom on the right side and scored to put Clayton State up 1-0. Tonny Madegwa assisted on the play with a pass to Habtom to set up the game’s first goal.
The Lakers struck again in the 27th minute when Madegwa rocketed two attempts off Saints’ goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey, only to have the third attempt fall at his feet and into the back of the net. The Lakers added another goal right before half when Matthias Faublas took a pass from Habtom and scored from just inside the 18-yard box.
Things did not get any better in the second half for North Georgia when Kirksey misplayed a pass back, watching the ball eek into the back of the net for a 4-0 deficit.
Kevin Crooks came off the bench for Clayton State (3-3-0, 1-0 PBC) in the second half, scoring on another double assist by Habtom (his third of the match) and Madegwa in the 54th minute for a 5-0 Lakers advantage.
The final goal of the match came off the foot of Marquintez Jackson in the 82nd minute, when he took a feed from Ryan Townson and Todd Denson.
North Georgia (1-5-0, 0-1 PBC) returns to action on September 14th, traveling to Thomas University.
