SAINTS PICK UP VICTORY OVER BREWTON-PARKER
Dahlonega, GA - North Georgia College & State University used a pair of goals by Jeremy Bouasy to ease past Brewton-Parker 4-1 at the NGCSU Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening.
After a Ryan Whittington goal in the 14th minute put the Saints up 1-0, Bouasy pressured Brewton-Parker goalkeeper Nick Rodriguez just inside the box. Unable to pick the ball up, Rodriguez tried to dribble Bouasy, but was unsuccessful as the senior took the ball and punched it in from 16 yards out to put the Saints up 2-0 in the 40th minute.
Bouasy and Rodriguez dueled again in the 41st minute, just 47 seconds later with the same outcome. Bouasy stripped the ball from Rodriguez and scored on an empty net for a 3-0 Saints lead.
Bouasy almost struck again on a misplay by Brewton-Parker keeper Michael Gibbs late in the contest. Gibbs cleared the ball, but was 40 yards away from net when Bouasy took the ball and hit it towards an empty net. Gibbs was able to run the ball down and prevent Bouasy from recording a hat trick.
North Georgia scored again in the 56th minute when Joey Rector took a cross intended for Eddie Collins and finished on the far post for a 4-0 lead. The ball sent in by Whittington skipped past Collins and right to the foot of Rector for the final goal.
Brewton-Parker (0-4-0) scored in the 81st minute when Sean Boggs headed a corner from Carlos Ortiz past Saints’ goalkeeper Vince Neal to trim the lead to 4-1.
North Georgia withstood a late surge by Brewton-Parker, who took nine shots in the final ten minutes, for the victory. Will Maxwell saved a goal when a shot by Nathan Knight skipped by Neal. Maxwell was on the line and poked it away before it went into the net and trimmed to the lead to two with just ten minutes remaining.
The Saints out-shot Brewton-Parker 23-15 for the game, with Brandon Kirksey picking up the victory in net.
North Georgia (1-4-0) opens conference play Friday by taking on defending Peach Belt Conference champion Clayton State University at 6:30 pm in Dahlonega.
