SAINTS PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL

Dahlonega, GA – The North Georgia College & State University men’s soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the Peach Belt Conference this season according to the PBC coaches’ preseason poll announced yesterday.

Last season, the Saints concluded their first season in the NCAA Division II and PBC with an overall record of 10-6-2 and 2-3-1 in conference play. The Saints advanced to the semifinal round of the PBC Tournament defeating Lander, and later losing to PBC regular-season and tournament champions, Clayton State.

Clayton State received the top spot in the PBC preseason poll with 47 points closely followed by USC Upstate (45).  UNC Pembroke (34), Lander (31) and North Georgia (26) rounded out the top five. Francis Marion (21), USC Aiken (12) and PBC newcomer Georgia Southwestern (8) completed the poll.

The Saints launch their 2006 season on Aug. 26 at the Sleep Inn Classic in Mount Olive, NC. The Saints will take on the Mount Olive Trojans at 3:30 p.m., and on Aug. 27 will compete against the St. Andrews Knights at 1:00 p.m.
