SAINTS DROP NIGHT HAWKS 1-0 AND CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT
Dahlonega, Ga. – A goal by senior forward Ciro Pelliccia in the 74th minute gave North Georgia College & State University a 1-0 victory on a cold Friday night over Thomas University at the NGCSU Soccer Complex. The Saints also celebrated the careers of eight seniors on the squad who played their final home match of their careers.
Seniors Rene Alvarez, Jonathan Cueva, Ciro Pelliccia, Drew Prentice, Eric Robidou, Kent Thornton, Rik Wyatt, and Matthew Wyrick were all honored before the match for their success and contribution to the NGCSU soccer program.
In the match, both the Saints (9-5-2) and Night Hawks (4-9-2) fought hard for control of the contest. In 90 minutes of play, a combined 34 fouls were committed with two yellow cards handed out. North Georgia out-shot TU 9-5 and held a slight advantage over the Night Hawks 3-2 in shots-on-goal. Both goalies performed well as freshman Mott Roland tallied two saves and sophomore Chapin LaChance made two as well.
After 73:00 minutes of scoreless soccer, Thornton and Pelliccia raced down the field on a break away and Pelliccia was able to drive the ball past Roland for the score. The goal marked Pelliccia's sixth goal of the season.
The Night Hawks concluded their season with tonight's match, but the Saints will await the outcome of this weekend's Peach Belt Conference matches to see who their opponent will be as the PBC Soccer Tournament begins on November 2.
