OGLETHORPE TRIPPED UP BY NORTH GEORGIA
Atlanta, Ga. - The Oglethorpe men's soccer team lost to North Georgia College 3-1 on Monday evening. In a match that saw the Petrels out-shoot their opponents 13-10, Oglethorpe simply could not finish with a goal on numerous chances.
Ryan Whittingdon got the scoring started for North Georgia in only the games 6th minute. Whittingdon's teammate Rene Alvarez added another goal less than ten minutes later and the Petrels found themselves down 2-0.
As they have in previous matches, however, Oglethorpe fought back. Erik Horne scored a cracking goal for Oglethorpe off a beautiful serve from Josh Rosendahl in the 21st minute. As the ball floated into the box, Horne gained position, went up in the air and smoked a goal off his right foot.
Though the Petrels gave themselves many chances to equalize, none found the back of the net. North Georgia finally put the game out of reach on an unassisted goal by Kelvon Morris in the games 68th minute.
Oglethorpe has one remaining non-conference game against LaGrange before starting their conference slate on Friday, October 7th at Sewanee.
