SAINTS BLOW OUT HURRICANES 9-1 IN MEN'S SOCCER
Rene Alvarez Tallies Two Goals in Victory
Dahlonega, Ga. – Eight different Saints netted goals with senior midfielder Rene Alvarez leading the way with two goals as North Georgia College & State University defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 9-1 Wednesday afternoon.
The Hurricanes (4-4-2) got on the board first after Bari Bariyinga netted the first goal of the game five minutes into the match. The 1-0 lead lasted 30 minutes before Alvarez, the current Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, blasted a penalty kick into the net to tie the game. Four minutes later, Alvarez scored his second goal of the match to put the Saints up 2-1 and North Georgia never looked back.
North Georgia rattled off two more goals before the end of the half to go up three goals heading into the intermission. Freshman midfielder Will Maxwell scored the first goal of the second half in the 51st minute as the Saints scored four more goals in the half to finish with the 9-1 win. Sophomore goalkeeper Chapin LaChance made three saves to tally his sixth win of the season.
North Georgia will play again this Saturday against Francis Marion University in a PBC match at home. Kick off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the NGCSU Soccer Complex.
