ALVAREZ SELECTED TO CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Dahlonega, Ga. – Senior midfielder Rene Alvarez was named to the second team ESPN The Magazine College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) All-District Team announced today by CoSIDA officials.
Alvarez becomes the first ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District award winner for the North Georgia College & State University athletic program.
Leading the North Georgia men's soccer team to a 10-5-2 overall record so far this season, Alvarez leads the team in points (22), goals (8), and assists (6) and ranks in the top-five in each of those categories in the conference. In addition to his abilities on the field, he has a 3.26 GPA as Mathematics major in his senior year and was selected to the conference All-Academic team in 2004.
Alvarez was one of three Peach Belt Conference student-athletes selected to the District 3 College Division All-Academic team. Francis Marion goalkeeper Jonathan Runion was selected to the first team and FMU defender Mike Greenaway was named to the second team. Members on the first team will go on to the National ballot for selection to the All-American team. Members of CoSIDA select the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams.
