Senior midfielder Jake Nelson (Canton, Ga.) made the most of his final home game as a Saint and scored the first goal of the match in the 44th minute as he headed in a rebounded off the crossbar. Playing in his final home game as well was senior forward Calvin Smith (Flowery Branch, Ga.) who assisted junior forward Ciro Pelliccia (Conyers, Ga.), who snuck past the goalie to give North Georgia a 2-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Smith knocked in a goal of his own in the 82nd minute off of a nice pass from junior midfielder Rene' Alvarez (Dahlonega, Ga.) to give the Saints a 3-0 lead late into the game. |

The North Georgia defense did the rest as sophomore goalkeeper Vince Neal (Athens, Ga.) made two saves and recorded his fourth shutout of the season. So far this season, the Saints defense has been stingy and allowed only 29 goals the entire season and forced seven shutouts.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-3-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the SSAC soccer tournament. Up next for North Georgia is a 11:30 am rematch Saturday against #12 Auburn University Montgomery at Berry College in the semifinals of the tournament. |
