NORTH GEORGIA RUNS PAST SHORTER 7-2 IN SSAC MEN'S SOCCER ACTION

Rome, Ga. - The Saints got their 2004 SSAC season off to a great start as they stormed past the Hawks 7-2. Six North Georgia players scored goals and four more added assists in the match.

The Saints defense held strong and the offence raced to a 4-0 lead in the first half. Senior midfielder Jake Nelson (Canton, Ga.) made a beautiful cross to senior forward Calvin Smith (Flowery Branch, Ga.) to score the first goal of the match for North Georgia. Junior midfielder Jonathan Cueva (Quito, Ecuador) connected on an assist from junior forward Ciro Pelliccia (Conyers, Ga.) and slipped the ball past the keeper. For the Saints third goal of the match, junior defender Eric Robidou (Conyers, Ga.) played a through ball to sophomore forwards Judson Brown (Bishop, Ga.) who then finished the one on one with the keeper. Before the end of the half Brown scored his second goal of the match when he blasted a rebound into an open net.

In the second half North Georgia came out shooting and Nelson added his second assist as he set up sophomore forward Jeremy Bouasy (Demorest, Ga.) for the goal. The Hawks scored two goals in the second half when Yulian Paramo and Youssof Cisse broke the shutout in the second half.

Junior midfielder Rene' Alvarez (Dahlonega, Ga.) recieved a pass from freshman forward Cal Cook (Jupiter, Fla.) and buried the ball in the net after driving past two defenders from the right side. The Saints final goal came off of a penalty kick from freshman forward Kelvon Morris (Scarborough, Tobago).

The Saints improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. The Hawks are now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

NGCSU will face Brewton-Parker College at home on Tuesday at 7:00 pm for their second SSAC test of the year. The Hawks return to action Wednesday night September 1 at 8:00 pm against Maryville College.
