SAINTS SOCCER BLANKS HURRICANES 12-0
Ciro Pelliccia scores three goals to lead North Georgia
Dahlonega, Ga. - The North Georgia men's soccer team put on a show in its final home match of the regular season as they defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 12-0 this afternoon.
The Saints got on the board in the eighth minute when junior midfielder Jonathan Cueva (Quito, Ecuador) caught a corner kick and dribbled inside the box to score the first goal of the match. Back-to-back goals were scored in the 21st minute by junior midfielder Henry Rohde (San Salvador, El Salvador) and freshman midfielder Kenny MacKenzie (Edinburgh, Scotland) to give North Georgia a 3-0 lead. The Saints scored one more goal in the first half when senior midfielder Jake Nelson (Canton, Ga.) put a rebound back in the goal to increase the lead to 4-0 before the end of the half.
The onslaught continued in the second half as junior forward Ciro Pelliccia (Conyers, Ga.) scored his first of three goals in the match off of an assist from junior defender Eric Robidou (Conyers, Ga.). Junior midfielder Rene' Alvarez (Dahlonega, Ga.) scored his first goal of the match when freshman midfielder Jeremy Bouasy (Demorest, Ga.) assisted him with his first of three assists. Bouasy set up Pelliccia again for his second goal to give North Georgia a 7-0 lead. Right after Pelliccia's goal, junior midfielder Kent Thornton (Kathleen, Ga.) dribbled around the defender and ran the ball in the goal. Bouasy and Pelliccia combined again in the 64th minute to give the Saints a commanding 9-0 lead. MacKenzie scored the 10th goal of the match on a diving header off of a corner kick by Nelson in the 72nd minute. The final two goals were scored by freshman forward Calvin Cook (Jupiter, Fla.) and Rohde in the 87th and 89th minute to give North Georgia the 12-0 win.
With the win, the Saints improve to 11-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). In the first year of its men's soccer program the Hurricanes fall to 1-12-0 overall and 1-9-0 in the SSAC.
North Georgia will play its final regular season match of the 2004 season this Saturday as they travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College at 2:00 pm. GSW prepares for the first round of the SSAC soccer tournament scheduled to begin this Monday.
