CLAYTON EDGES SAINTS 3-2 IN MEN'S SOCCER

Dahlonega, Ga. - North Georgia College & State University (2-1-1) did all it could in the closing minutes of the match to even up the score, but Clayton College & State University (2-1-0) held on to its 3-2 lead to hand the Saints their first loss of the 2004 season.

The Lakers started the scoring in the match early when sophomore midfielder Todd Denson (Lilburn, Ga.) knocked in an assist from sophomore defender Andrew Rall (Johnnesburg, South Africa) in the fifth minute. North Georgia tied the match in the 11th minute when junior forward Ciro Pelliccia (Conyers, Ga.) streaked through the defense and put the shot in the back of the net. Clayton retook the lead only a minute later when senior midfielder Richard Morton (Edinburg, Scotland) blasted a shot from 40 yards out.

Senior forward David Dowling (Johnnesburg, South Africa) scored the final goal for the Lakers and gave them a 3-1 lead late in the second half. The Saints made a strong run to tie the score and freshman forward Cal Cook (Jupiter, Fla.) cut the lead to one as he put a header in the goal. Clayton's defense stepped up in the final minutes to deny anymore goals and seal the victory for the Lakers.

North Georgia will be on the road this weekend as they head up to take on USC-Aiken on September 4 at 4:00 pm. Clayton will take on SCAD on September 8 in Norcross at 7:00 pm.
