AUM SNEAKS PAST NORTH GEORGIA 2-0 IN SSAC SEMI-FINALS
ROME, Ga. - The second-seeded and 12th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery Senators moved onto the Southern States Athletic Conference championship game with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over North Georgia College and State University on Friday afternoon.
Magnus Olafsson came off of the bench late in the first half to score the first goal of the game in the 39th minute. Olafsson's goal came off of a flick from forward Hjortur Hjartarsson into the box, following a tremendous boot from Senator goalkeeper Bjarki Gudmundsson.
The Senators would add their second goal of the game, just 1 minute and 24 seconds later as Hjartarsson scored on a penalty kick after being dragged down in the penalty area.
The Senators hung on in the second half, as they held the Saints to just seven shots for the game and only two shots on goal for the entire 90 minutes. Meanwhile, AUM took 15 shots, with seven of those coming on goal.
AUM (14-3-0) takes on seventh-ranked and top-seeded Berry College in the championship game today at 12:30 pm EST at Ford Field. North Georgia now awaits for a regional bid to continue their season in the NAIA Region XIII tournament.
