NORTH GEORGIA FALLS TO SOUTHERN INDIANA
Jay Anderson leads three Saints in double figures
Orlando, FL - The North Georgia College & State University Saints fell to sixth-ranked Southern Indiana 85-62 to open the season at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic, hosted by the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Saints kept the game close in the first half, trailing 12-7 in the early going but the depth of the Screaming Eagles ran out to a 39-29 lead at the intermission.
Both teams were hot from the floor in the first half, with Southern Indiana connecting on 50 (14-for-28) percent from the floor and 60 (9-for-15) percent from behind the line. Meanwhile, the Saints were shooting 40.9 (16-for-36) percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes while hitting on 50 (7-for-14) percent from behind the three-point line.
The Screaming Eagles used a 19-5 run to extend their lead to 24 points in the second half behind the hot-shooting of Rashard Sullivan, who finished the game with 19 points.
For the game, North Georgia shot 44.9 (22-for-49) percent from the floor, while hitting on just 27.8 (5-for-18) percent from behind the three-point line. Meanwhile, Southern Indiana shot 53.6 (30-for-56) percent from the floor and 37 (10-for-27) percent from behind the three-point line.
Melvin Hall added 14 points, Kenny Page 13 and Marty Wise added 12 points and 13 rebounds for Southern Indiana (1-0).
Jay Anderson led North Georgia 13 points, on shooting 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Dustin David added 12 on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor and Buzz Wehunt added 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from the floor.
North Georgia (0-1) plays Alaska Fairbanks tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 in their second game of the Disney Classic.
