SAINTS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF SEASON
Balanced scoring leads Saints to victory
Dahlonega, GA - North Georgia College & State University took the lead on a field goal just five minutes in, placed five players in double figures, and cruised to a 100-75 victory over Reinhardt here Saturday afternoon.
The Saints' Anthony Rowe hit a lay-up just 4:21 into the game, giving the Saints a 7-6 lead - a lead they would never relinquish. The basket started an 18-5 run by North Georgia in the first half, enabling the Saints to jump to a 25-11 lead midway through the first half.
The two teams would trade baskets throughout the remainder of the game, with the largest lead of the game for the Saints being 28 (100-72) with under a minute remaining in the contest.
North Georgia shot 49.3 (33-for-67) percent from the floor, including shooting 57.1 (16-for-28) percent from the floor in the first half. The Saints also shot 46.2 (12-for-26) percent from behind the arc for the game, including shooting 50 (7-for-14) percent from behind the arc in the first half. They also shot 81.5 (22-for-27) percent from the free throw line.
Reinhardt (6-3) shot 45.2 (28-for-62) percent from the floor, and 37.5 (9-for-24) percent from behind the arc. The Eagles shot 55.6 (10-for-18) percent from the free throw line.
Junior Xavier Trice led the Saints with a game-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor. He also connected on 2-for-4 from behind the arc, and 4-for-5 from the free throw line in the victory. Junior Jay Anderson came off the bench to add 15 points, including an emphatic dunk in the second half that brought the crowd to its feet. Senior Buzz Wehunt and junior Lee Burrell each added 14, while Rowe added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Saints had two other players on the verge of double figures, with Robert Shoupes and Brad Cochran coming off the bench for nine points each.
Reinhardt was led by Carl Williams and Brendan Slotter with 16 points each, while Wes Koch added 12 points in the loss.
North Georgia (1-4) returns to action November 30 against Carver Bible College. The game will take place at 7:30 pm at Memorial Hall.
