JAY ANDERSON NAMED PEACH BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior guard averages 24.3 points per game in three games this past week
Augusta, GA - North Georgia College & State University junior guard Jay Anderson was named Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, released by the league office this afternoon.
Anderson, a 6-3 guard from Smyrna, put up monster numbers against UNC Pembroke, USC Upstate and Augusta State this past week in Peach Belt Conference action.
Against UNC Pembroke, he shot 42.9 (6-for-14) percent from the floor, 50 (3-for-6) percent from behind the arc and a perfect 100 (6-for-6) percent from the free throw line. He also scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Last Wednesday, Anderson scored 26 points on the road against USC Upstate. He shot 66.7 (10-for-15) percent from the floor, 66.7 (4-for-6) percent from behind the arc, and the same percentage from the free throw line. He also recorded three steals in the road loss. This past Saturday, Anderson once again led the Saints in scoring with 26 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds against Augusta State. He shot 46.1 (12-for-26) percent from the floor and 40 (2-for-5) percent from behind the arc.
For the week, Anderson shot 50.9 (28-for-55) percent from his guard position, 52.9 (9-for-17) percent from behind the arc and 88.9 (8-for-9) percent from the free throw line. He also averaged 24.3 points per game game, 5.3 rebounds per game and two steals per contest.
When the week began, Anderson was averaging 11.2 points per game, but after his three performances he is now 11th in scoring in the Peach Belt Conference, 12th in three-point field goal percentage and second in free throw percentage.
Anderson and the Saints return to action Wednesday, traveling to Greenwood, SC to take on Lander University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
