#23 PATRIOTS UPEND SAINTS 78-62

Williamsburg, Ky. – The #23 University of the Cumberlands jumped out to a six-point lead at half time and never looked back as they defeated North Georgia College & State University 78-62 in non-conference men's hoops action.

The Saints (1-2) jumped out to a quick seven point lead three minutes into the game, but six straight points by the Patriots (5-0) tied the game 9-9 at the 14:41 mark. North Georgia was able to fight back and go ahead 23-17 with 5:17 remaining in the period, but UC made a late rally with less than three minutes remaining and took the lead for good off of a three pointer by freshman guard Aaron Cash. The Patriots capitalized off of 14 Saints turnovers in the first half to build a 33-27 lead heading into the locker room.

UC turned on the offence in the second half and were up by 10 points midway through the period. The Patriots led the remainder of the game by 10 or more points and cruised to the 78-62 win. UC shot .480 (12-25) from the floor in the second half while the Saints struggled, shooting only 29% (11-38) and 7% (1-15) from behind the arc.

Senior guard Patrick Cuerton led the UC attack with a game high 23 points and five assists. Senior forward Jermaine Love chipped in 14 points and two rebounds as well for the Patriots. Junior guard Matt Causey scored a team high 19 points with nine rebounds for the Saints while junior forward Mark Trust scored his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

UC will play again on November 25 against Ohio State Marion at home at 7:00 p.m. North Georgia will take a week off before playing Augusta State University on November 30 at home in their Peach Belt Conference opener.
