Dahlonega, Ga . – If Wednesday night in Memorial Hall was any indication, the 2005-2006 North Georgia College & State University men's basketball team will score big again this season. The Saints flew past LaGrange College 114-92 in the men's basketball exhibition game.

The Panthers got off to a quick start as they rattled off the first five points of the game and had a 12-point lead five minutes into the ball game. Junior guard Robby Lawrence was the catalyst for the LGC attack as he finished with 12 points in the first half. The Panthers also shot a scorching 63% from behind the arc in the first half to help fuel their early run.

The Saints chipped away at the lead throughout the half and finally took the lead at the 4:28 mark to go up 39-38. Junior guard Matt Causey led the charge in the first half with 16 points along with senior guard Mark Causey and junior guard Buzz Wehunt who each chipped in 11 points apiece. North Georgia was able to get to a seven point lead with 57 seconds left in the half, but Panthers junior guard Kevin Kelly stole the ball with four seconds left and drained a three to tie the game at 54-54 heading into the locker room.

In the second half, the Saints outscored LGC 60-38 to run away with the victory. The Panthers tied the game 75-75 midway through the half, but were unable to get any closer. Two back-to-back dunks by Mark and Matt Causey shut the door on the Panthers with 5:36 left to go in the game.

Matt Causey dropped an additional 15 points in the second period to finish with a game high 31 points. Brother Mark finished with 23 points and Wehunt added 25. Senior post Marcus Robinson had eight points and a game high 10 rebounds. Lawrence finished with 14 points for the Panthers in the game while junior forward Mike Patterson and senior guard Corie Jackson each added 11.

The Saints will play again next Tuesday in their final warm-up before the regular season begins. North Georgia will take on NCAA DI power University of Alabama at Birmingham on November 15 at 7:30 p.m. (CST) in Birmingham. LGC will take to the floor again on November 18 against Oglethorpe University in the Tip-Off Classic hosted by LaGrange College.
