NORTH GEORGIA RALLIES PAST CAMPBELLSVILLE 84-82

Campbellsville, Ky. – Overcoming a six-point half time deficit, the North Georgia College & State University men's basketball team defeated Campbellsville University 84-82 to win their first game of the season and their first as a member of the NCAA.

The Saints (1-1) jumped out to an early seven-point lead in the first half, but the Tigers (4-1) clawed back and tied the game 9-9 off of a bucket from center Mark Anderson . North Georgia fought back to take the lead 22-21 with 12:29 remaining but CU continued to fight to keep the score close. Down by a point with less than two minutes remaining, the Tigers went on a charge and out-scored the Saints 11-4 in the closing minutes to take a 47-41 lead into the second half.

CU came out firing to open the second period and jumped out to a 54-44 lead, their largest of the game. North Georgia was able to chop into the lead until they tied the game 61-61 off of a made free throw from junior Matt Causey with 13:32. The score was tied two more times before the Saints took the lead for good off of a three-pointer from senior guard Mark Causey with 31 seconds left to give North Georgia a 83-80 lead. A field goal by forward James Steward cut the lead to one, but Matt Causey converted on one of two free throws to finish off the Tigers 84-82.

Matt Causey led all players with 30 points followed by CU's Zach Ingles 27 points. Saints freshman post Anthony Rowe came off the bench and gave a strong effort of 13 points with 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.

North Georgia will take to the court Monday night as they face Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY at 7:30.
