NGCSU TAKES DOWN SHORTER 95-85

Dahlonega, Ga. - Six Saints and five Hawks scored in double digits as North Georgia College & State University (10-5, 5-2 SSAC) scored a 95-85 win over conference opponent Shorter College (3-8, 0-6 SSAC) in men's basketball action Monday night.

The Hawks jumped out to an early six point lead in the game and were up 22-16 nine minutes into the contest. SC senior guard Jeff Dancy (Sparta, Ill.) led the Hawks charge with 18 points after shooting 6-9 from the field and 4-6 (67%) from behind the three point line in the first half. As a team, SC shot 6-14 (43%) from behind the arc in the half. The Saints clawed their way back into the game, and had a seven point lead with 5:21 remaining in the first after a monster dunk by sophomore forward Mark Trust (Winder, Ga.). The Hawks kept the game tight in the waning minutes of the half and were only down 47-42 heading into the second half.

In the second half, SC kept the game close; taking the lead twice in the first ten minutes of the second half. With the score tied 61-61 with 13:30 left in the game, North Georgia went on a 19-4 run over the next seven minutes, capped off by a jumper from Trust to make the score 80-65 with 6:44 left on the clock. The Hawks were within 10 points for the final minute of the game, but the Saints sunk their last few free throws to seal the victory.

North Georgia was led by Trust who had 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Matt Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) scored his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 assists. Senior wing Bryce Brickhouse (Norcross, Ga.) dropped 13 points and junior guard Mark Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) and senior forward Canaan Brown (Buford, Ga.) each had 12 points.

Leading SC was Dancy with 28 points, followed by junior guard Levi Hatcher (Trion, Ga.) with 15. The other top scorers for the Hawks were sophomore wing Casey Baxter (Calhoun, Ga.) with 13, junior forward Robert Chatmon (Alexandria, Ala.) with 11, and senior forward Matt Sauers (Loganville, Ga.) with 10.

The Saints head to take two days off and head to Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday to take on the Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on the road. The Hawks will also play on Thursday as they host AUM at home for a 8:00 p.m. game.
