#22 NORTH GEORGIA OUTLASTS AUM 75-70
Dahlonega, Ga. – With four Saints in double digits, #22 North Georgia College & State University worked its way past Auburn University Montgomery, 75-70 in Memorial Gymnasium.
The game was back-and-forth for most of the first half with both teams trading buckets and the lead. The Saints had an eight point lead twice in the first half, but each time the Senators hit their shots when they needed too to keep the game close. With less than 10 seconds remaining in the half, junior guard John Lilly (Columbiana, Ala.) knocked down a jumper to cut the lead to five and make the score 40-35 heading into intermission.
AUM opened the second half with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to one, but North Georgia then went on a 11-4 run to break the lead out to 10 midway through the second half. The Senators continued to chip away at the lead and were down 54-51 after senior forward Derrick Russell (Alexander City, Ala.) sunk a jumper. The Saints went on another run to jump out to an eight-point lead with nine minutes to go in the game, capped off by a three pointer from junior forward Ryan Franklin (Gainesville, Ga.). With a 71-63 lead with less than a minute remaining in the game, North Georgia hit their free throws and let the time wind down for the win.
Sophomore guard Matt Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) led all scorers with 18 points. Sophomore forward Mark Trust (Winder, Ga.) scored his second straight double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard Mark Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) had 17 points with senior forward Canaan Brown (Buford, Ga.) adding 12 points. Franklin scored 11 points to round out the top scorers for the Saints. |

Russell led AUM with 16 points and sophomore guard Joseph Manuel (Beatrice, Ala.) had 15 points. Junior guard Rashad Curtis (Dalton, Ga.) added 10 points to the Senator effort.
North Georgia improves to 19-7 overall and 13-4 in the SSAC this season. The Saints will take a week off before heading on the road to play Shorter in Rome. The Senators, 8-15 overall and 5-10 in the conference, travel to Rome this weekend to play the Hawks at 3:00 p.m.
