SAINTS AND LADY SAINTS BASKETBALL WELL REPRESENTED IN FINAL NAIA NATIONAL STATISTICS
Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University men's and women's basketball teams are listed among the leaders in the final NAIA statistics.
Junior guard Katie Williamson (Suwanee, Ga.) finished fourth in free throws this season after shooting 88.9% from the line. Junior forward Jeanine Dorminey (Tifton, Ga.) finished ranked in two categories; she was sixth in blocked shots with 2.24 bpg and 13th in defensive rebounds with 5.79 rpg. As a team, the Lady Saints were ranked in nine different statistical categories as a team. North Georgia finished second in the country in defensive rebounds (28.97 rpg), fourth in free throw percentage (76.0%) and blocked shots (5.12 bpg), sixth in defensive field goal percentage (35.6%), and eighth in total rebounding offense (42.06). The Lady Saints also were ranked 18th in scoring margin (+11.41), tied for 19th in field goal percentage (44.0%), and 20th in scoring (74.27 ppg).
The Lady Saints finished their NAIA career with their third straight conference championship, fourth straight conference tournament championship, and seventh consecutive appearance at the NAIA National Tournament. North Georgia finished the season ranked ninth in the nation with a 26-8 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NAIA Tournament were they were defeated by eventual National Champions Union University 83-75 in overtime. Three players were named to the All-American team along with two Academic All-Americans.
Saints sophomore guard Matt Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) finished the season ranked second in the country in assists with 6.82 apg and third in scoring with 23.73 ppg. Causey also tied for seventh in the nation in free throw percentage (86.5%). Sophomore forward Mark Trust (Winder, Ga.) finished the season ranked 10th in blocked shots (1.16 bpg) and 20th in defensive rebounding (5.64 rpg). As a team, the Saints set a new school record for points in a season with 3015 and scoring average (91.36 ppg). North Georgia finished second in the nation in scoring, tied for fifth in free throw percentage (74.7%), and ninth in defensive rebounds (26.12 rpg). The Saints also finished 10th in field goal percentage (49.5%), 13th in blocked shots (3.7 bpg), and 15th in assist to turnover ratio (1.12).
Finishing one of the most successful seasons in Saints history, North Georgia went 23-10 this season and tied the universities record for most wins in a season. The Saints finished second in the conference with a 16-6 record and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. North Georgia had its first All-American first team selection in almost a decade and had two players named to the Academic All-American team.
