MATT CAUSEY NAMED NAIA FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

Kansas City, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today the 2005 Men's Basketball All-American Team. North Georgia College & State University sophomore Matt Causey was selected as a First Team All-American for his performance this season.

Causey, a 6-0 guard from Gainesville, Ga., is a first year member of the All-American team after being selected as Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year . Causey led the Saints to one of the best seasons in the programs 33-year history. North Georgia finished second in the SSAC with a 23-10 overall record and a 16-6 conference mark with Causey leading the team to school record average of 91.4 ppg. He averaged 23.7 ppg and 6.8 apg this season and was ranked second in assists and third in scoring in the NAIA this season. Causey set new records at North Georgia with 783 points and 225 assists as well as 227 free throws made and 263 free throws attempted. He was also selected conference Player of the Week and NAIA Player of the Week this year. He scored a career high 43 points with 12 assists in North Georgia's 109-98 win over Southern Wesleyan University on February 19.

Senior forward Jarred Merrill of Oklahoma Christian University was named Rawlings-NAIA Player of the Year after leading OCU to a 27-7 overall record and the second round of the NAIA Tournament. Merrill was second in the nation in scoring with 24.3 ppg and fourth in the nation in rebounding with 10.33 rpg. He recorded 22 double-doubles for OCU this season.
