SAINTS WIN SECOND STRAIGHT, DOWN CARSON-NEWMAN 14-8
North Georgia tallies 18 hits in win

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, GA - North Georgia College & State University recorded 18 hits and scored in six different innings to defeat Carson-Newman 14-8 Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

With the Saints trailing 4-1 in the third, Craig Brisson and Andre Airich notched singles to bring Rob Flanigan to the plate who promptly sent his team-leading seventh home run sailing past the flag pole in dead center to tie the game 4-4.

The game would not be tied for long however, as Daniel Petitti led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run down the left field line to give the Saints a one run lead they would never relinquish.

The Saints added four more runs in the seventh on five hits, including one of three doubles off the bat of Andrew Jones to bring Anders Oster racing home to make it a 10-4 game.

Carson-Newman (18-9) had a bright spot in the 8th inning as the Saints Garrett Lussi came in the game and was greeted by a leadoff solo home run off the bat of Robert Profitt to pull the Eagles to within five runs at 11-6.

Both team would put a three spot on the board in their last at-bats as North Georgia put their second straight game in the win column with a 14-8 route of Carson-Newman.

Kyle Doehrman made his first start of the year and settled down after a shaky start to pick up his first win of the season, going seven innings and allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out five.

Charlie Hill suffered the loss for the Eagles, lasting just three innings and giving up six hits and five earned runs while striking out two.

North Georgia was led by six Saints with multiple hit games, including freshman Andrew Jones who went 4-5 with three runs batted in and a run scored. Logan Sharrett and Brisson each added three hits apiece as the Saints rallied for 18 hits and 14 runs.

Carson Newman was led by Cory McGinnis who recorded three hits and scored twice, while Nick Achberger pounded out four hits and drove in a pair of runs.

North Georgia will look to sweep the two game set tomorrow afternoon from the Eagles as the two teams are set for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
