SAINTS TAKE TWO FROM AUGUSTA STATE
North Georgia will look for series sweep Monday afternoon

DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State University trailed early, but came back for an 8-6 win in game one and poured it on in the nightcap, pulling out a 12-2 victory to sweep a doubleheader from Augusta State University Sunday evening in Peach Belt Conference action.

North Georgia improves to 22-16 on the year and 10-10 in PBC play, while the Jaguars fall to 22-18 overall and 7-10 in the league.

In game one, ASU jumped out to a first inning lead on a Bryson Smith two-run homer, plating Kevin Owens for a 2-0 lead. The Jaguars would four more in the second as Michael Fritz and Shannon Wilkerson both drove in a pair of runs on singles to give Augusta State a 6-0 lead.

North Georgia responded in the third as Rob Flanigan drove in a run on a ground out, and Josh Tate sent a two-out single to center field to plate a pair of runs and cut the Jaguar lead in half at 6-3.

The Saints would come right back in the fifth push four more runs across to take a 7-6 lead. Logan Sharrett doubled to bring Brisson home from first, and Tate unloaded again, blasting a three-run long ball to give North Georgia a lead they would never relinquish. Flanigan added insult to injury for the Jaguars, sending his 10th home run of the year over the centerfield fence to give North Georgia an 8-6 win in the series opener.

Chris Curtis (5-2) settled down after allowing six runs over the first two innings and picked up the complete game win, scattering eight hits and five earned runs while striking out six. Jocab Watson (4-3) suffered the loss, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out five.

In game two, North Georgia picked up right where the left off in the opener, driving in runs and shutting down the Jaguar's offense. The Saints came out in the first inning and put six runs on the board. Flanigan got it started with a three-run homer to right field for his second long ball of the day, plating Craig Brisson and Sharrett for a 3-0 lead. Chad Sage homered later in the inning and Kevin Morrison drove in a pair of runs on a double to give North Georgia a 6-0 first inning advantage.

Flanigan continued his impressive performance at the plate, driving in another run in the second inning with a double, and Daniel Petitti recorded a sacrifice fly in the fifth to bring home Andre Airich and give North Georgia an 8-0 fifth inning lead.

The Jaguars got on the board in the sixth inning as David Barnes drove in a run on a double, and raced home on a passed ball later in the inning to make it an 8-2 North Georgia lead.

The Saints added four more runs in the eighth inning as Brisson, Flanigan, and Sage all added RBI hits to give North Georgia a 12-2 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader sweep over Augusta State University.

James Wiley (3-3) picked up the win for the Saints, recording a complete game while scattering 11 hits and striking out four. Brandon Iverson (4-4) was tagged with the loss for the Jaguars, lasting just one-third of an inning and allowing three hits and five earned runs.

Flanigan had a career day at the plate for the Saints, recording four hits, driving in seven runs, and blasting two home runs in the doubleheader.

North Georgia (22-16, 10-10 PBC) will look to sweep their second three-game series of the season tomorrow afternoon against the Jaguars at 2:00 p.m.
