SAINTS DROP PAIR TO DELTA STATE
North Georgia plays third consecutive ranked team this weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – North Georgia College & State University dropped a pair of non-conference games to Gulf South Conference member, and 15th ranked Delta State University at Paterson Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints fell to Delta State 4-0 in game one, thanks in most part to the pitching of Robert Tucker and Chris Weast.
Tucker, the starter, went four innings allowing just one hit while striking out three batters. Weast (2-1) went the final five innings, allowing just three hits, walking two and striking out five.
Zach Black (0-3) suffered the loss for the Saints, going four innings and allowing four runs off of seven hits. Freshman Mitch Williams came in out of the bullpen for four scoreless innings for the Saints.
Delta State, leading 1-0, struck for three runs in the fourth inning to put the first game away.
Jareck West led Delta State at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double, while Chris Clark went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and a run scored.
Andre Airich, Josh Tate, Kevin Morrison and Anders Oster each recorded hits for North Georgia in the game one loss.
In game two, North Georgia jumped ahead of Delta State but was unable to hold on, falling 6-2 in the nightcap.
The Saints jumped ahead early, going up 2-0 after three innings of play. Following a groundout, freshman catcher Daniel Petitti was hit by a pitch and scored on a Craig Brisson triple to take a 1-0 lead. Airich then brought Brisson home on a squeeze to take a 2-0 lead.
However, Delta State scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning and one more seventh for the final margin.
Korey Cunningham (1-0) garnered his first win of the season, going four innings and allowing two runs off of five hits.
Caleb Copeland (0-1) suffered the loss, going 3 2/3 innings allowing five runs off of five hits. Garrett Lussi came out of the bullpen for 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Brisson went 2-for-4 for the Saints, while Tate was 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
North Georgia (5-9) returns to action this weekend in their second conference series of the season, hosting USC Upstate.
