SAINTS FALL TO AUBURN-MONTGOMERY AT HOME
Neil Krock shines for Saints at the plate in loss
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University fell to Auburn Montgomery 10-4 in non-conference baseball action here Wednesday evening.
The fourth-ranked Senators used four two-run innings to pull away from North Georgia, including using a two-run homerun by senior second baseman Junior Kelly in the top of the first inning off of North Georgia starter Caleb Copeland (2-4).
Auburn Montgomery would add two more runs in the second inning and one more in the third to take a 5-0 lead, before North Georgia could get on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Neil Krock led off the inning with a single to left, followed by a walk to Craig Brisson by Auburn Montgomery starter Justin Barrett (6-1). Both runners advanced to up 90 feet with no outs following a balk by the junior right hander, before Krock scored on an Andre Airich groundout to short which cut the lead to 5-1.
Auburn Montgomery added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to push the lead back to 7-1, before North Georgia scored their second run of the game when Krock singled home freshman Daniel Petitti.
North Georgia scored their final two runs of the game in sixth and ninth innings. In the sixth, the Saints used a lead-off double by Anders Oster down the leftfield line to jumpstart the inning. He advanced to third on a wild pitch by Auburn Montgomery reliever Scott Mularz, before scoring on a Creston Warner single to center. In the ninth, North Georgia used a string of three consecutive two-out hits off of reliever Brandon Ware to score their final run.
Bruce Alter led Auburn Montgomery (48-11) at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and two runs batted in. Kelly went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Davis Lambert, Allen Ponder and Matt Arrighi each collected two hits for the Senators.
Krock led North Georgia at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, with a run scored and two runs batted in. Oster went 2-for-4, including hitting his sixth double, while Brad Hall collected his 10th double in the loss.
Copeland suffered the loss for North Georgia, lasting one inning (facing two batters in the top of the second). He allowed four runs off of four hits. Meanwhile, Barrett picked up the win for Auburn Montgomery, going four innings in a pre-determined start. He allowed two runs off of four hits.
North Georgia (32-21, 15-12 PBC) faces Armstrong Atlantic State University in their final Peach Belt Conference series of the season this weekend. The first game is slated to start at 8 pm on Friday night.
