OSTER AND WARNER POWER SAINTS OVER AUGUSTA STATE
Don Brice picks up second win of the week for North Georgia
AUGUSTA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University claimed their fourth consecutive Peach Belt Conference series by defeating Augusta State 15-3 here in baseball action Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Don Brice picked up his second win of the week, this time in relief of starter Brannon Sikes on Sunday afternoon. After Sikes went three innings, allowing two runs off of five hits, Brice (4-0) came on in the fourth. He worked five innings, allowing just one earned run and struck out two Jaguars.
Sophomore Zach Black came on and pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two.
The Saints blew the game open in the first two innings, scoring two runs in the first and adding six more in the eighth. The big blow in the first two innings came off the bat of sophomore shortstop Anders Oster, when he hit a two-run homerun, his first of the season.
The Saints added five more runs in the eighth inning for the final margin, highlighted by a two-run homerun off the bat of senior first baseman Creston Warner.
Freshman Craig Brisson led the Saints at the plate as he went 4-for-5, while senior third baseman Justin Rickett continued his hot-hitting by going 4-for-5 with three runs batted in. Oster collected a pair of hits for the Saints.
North Georgia out-hit Augusta State on the day, 20-9.
North Georgia (21-13, 10-5 PBC) returns to action on Tuesday night against Anderson University at the NGCSU Baseball Complex. The game, a rematch of a Saints 20-15 victory earlier this season, begins at 6 pm and is part of Student-Athlete Appreciation Night at the Baseball and Softball Complex with the softball team taking on USC Upstate.
