NORTH GEORGIA AND AUGUSTA STATE SPLIT ON DAY ONE
Saints win game one behind Rickett's hot bat

AUGUSTA, Ga.The Augusta State Jaguars split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with the North Georgia Saints Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

ASU moves to 22-11 overall and 8-6 in the PBC, while NGCSU progresses to 20-13 on the year and 9-5 in the league.

In game one, the Jags jumped on top in the first when Jorge Virguez singled to left scoring Bennett Mayfield, going up 1-0. The Saints answered back in the top of the fifth when Craig Brisson led off with a single to left and Josh Tate came up to the plate and hit a homer to take the lead, 2-1.

ASU scored another run in the sixth with a sac-fly by Tim Rawlings plating Dustin Taylor. NGCSU grabbed two more with a two-run homer by Justin Rickett, making the final score 5-2.

Chris Curtis posted the win for the Saints making him 5-2 on the season, while Trey Williams got his first loss on the year pitching the full nine innings.

Both Mayfield and Taylor led the Jags offensively in the first game hitting 2-for-3 with one run scored. Rickett went 4-for-5 for North Georgia with two RBI and one run scored.

In the second game, the Jags put two runs across in the first inning and then two in the second when Mayfield hit a single to left plating Darren Swift and Michael Fritz. The Saints also put two across in the second when Creston Warner singled down the left field line scoring Anders Oster and Rickett.

ASU got three more in the bottom of the third, making the score 7-2. In the top of the fifth NGCSU plated two more but were not able to put any more hits together and went scoreless, ending the game with a final score of 7-4.

Jon Hansen (5-2) got the win for the Jags and Caleb Copeland (1-3) receives the loss for the Saints.

Taylor was 2-for-4 for ASU and Warner was 2-for-3 with two RBI for NGCSU.

The Jags are back in action tomorrow, April 1, playing the third game of the PBC three-game series against North Georgia. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
