CHRIS CURTIS NAMED PBC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Junior scatters three hits in victory over 8th-ranked GCSU
AUGUSTA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University junior righthander Chris Curtis was awarded the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office this afternoon.
Curtis becomes the first pitcher to win the award this season, and is the fourth baseball player and fifth athlete to win the award this season.
He pitched a complete-game shutout of then eighth-ranked Georgia College & State University on Sunday afternoon, scattering just three hits. He struck out five batters, walked three (with one intentional walk issued) and faced just six batters over the minimum.
Curtis also worked out of two jams on the afternoon, before ending the game on a 163 groundball double play. In the fourth inning, clinging to a 1-0 lead, Curtis faced a situation with a runnner at third and just one out. He got out of the jam with two consecutive outs. He faced another jam in the sixth with a 1-0 lead, with a runner at second and just one out and was able to work out of that jam as well.
Curtis moved to 6-3 with the victory on Sunday. He is currently sixth in the Peach Belt on earned run average and is second in innings pitched.
