The Warriors (20-23) threatened quickly as they started off the first with a double from Chris Skinner. Davey Blackburn singled to advance Skinner and Ryan Maedel followed with a single through the left side to put the Warriors up 1-0. The Saints were held scoreless through the bottom of the first frame.
The Saints (20-16) rocketed to life in the bottom of the second as Kyle Potts singled with a line drive to left field. An RBI triple by Erik Good put the Saints on the board and moments later Good scored on a balk putting North Georgia up 2-1. Ryan Gurley highlighted the third inning with a three-run RBI double that brought in Justin Rickett, Anders Oster, and Josh Tate to increase the Saints’ lead to 6-1.
With two outs in the fourth, Tate knocked a two-run RBI single that increased the Saints lead to 8-1. SWU pitcher Lincoln Miller was brought in to control the damage, but a wild pitch advanced Tate to second and a drooping shot to left by Potts tallied another run.
A lead off triple from Dusty Tate in the fifth followed by an identical shot by Jake Barrow for a double added another run to the Saints onslaught. Again with two outs, J. Tate tapped a line drive down the right field line for a double bringing the 11th run in to score.
SWU pitcher John Magni came in the sixth to control the Saints’ offensive. Good was walked and a deep double to center from Justin Wheeler threatened, but Magni stopped the advance and Saints maintained their ten-run advantage through the top of the seventh.
Saints’ starting pitcher Zach Black found his rhythm in the second inning and moved through Warrior batters without allowing any additional runs to score. Black earned the win after pitching the seven-inning game allowing one run to score off of six hits and improved to 2-2 on the season. The loss for the night went to Warrior starting pitcher Brett Hoogkamp.
The Saints return to action this Saturday as they travel to compete in a three game series with PBC opponent Francis Marion University beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Warriors travel home to play Anderson College on March 29 at 2:30 p.m.
