SAINTS AND SEA WARRIORS SPLIT FINAL DOUBLE HEADER
Honolulu, Hawaii – Sophomore Pierce Manglallan hurled a three-hit shutout, leading HPU to a 3-0 win in the first game of their doubleheader finale against North Georgia College & State University. The Saints won game two, 7-1 to earn the split, but the Sea Warriors won four of the six games to take the series.
In a game that took just one hour and forty-five minutes, Manglallan dominated the tough Saints lineup, allowing just one runner to reach third base the entire game. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, struck out two and walked none to earn his first win of the year. HPU scored all three runs in the second inning as back-to-back doubles by Danny Lee and Adam Arakawa to put them up 2-0. A sacrifice fly by Tyler Jefferson made it 3-0, which was more than enough for Manglallan. Lee finished 2-3 with an RBI. Saints starter Michael Whiting took the tough loss, allowing just four hits in six innings.
NGCSU turned the tables in the nightcap, outhitting HPU 12-6, and scoring six runs in the first three innings. Sea Warrior starter Turhan Folse lasted just two innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits. He also walked three batters and struck out one. HPU avoided the shutout in the fourth inning on an RBI-single by Lee. Spencer Omalza and Lee each batted 2-3. Ryan Gurley led the Saints at the plate, finishing 2-4, with a triple and three RBI. Junior Justin Rickett went 4-6 with thre runs scored for North Georgia in the two games.
