SAINTS ROLL THROUGH TROJANS 10-2
Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University baseball team rolled through Anderson University 10-2 in the non-conference contest at the North Georgia Baseball Complex.

The Saints (22-19) struck first in the bottom of first frame when senior Brian Lauderdale advanced himself around the bases after being hit by a pitch. Freshman Jake Barrow hit a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Lauderdale to cross the plate and put the Saints up 1-0. Saints’ senior Dusty Tate repeated actions taken by Lauderdale and stole second after being walked. Senior David Chastain knocked an RBI single to left to increase North Georgia’s lead.
In the top of the fourth, the Trojans (18-28) rallied with back-to-back doubles by Jonathan Pitts and Clint Neville and a sacrifice hit by Cody Nye to tie the game 2-2. The Saints answered by starting things off with a double by Lauderdale to score Tate. Barrow reached first on an error and Lauderdale scored on a pass ball to bump the Saints’ lead to 4-2. Senior Ryan Gurley singled through the right side to score Barrow for the final run of the inning.
The fifth frame showed the Saint’s fortitude as junior Creston Warner singled up the middle to lead off for the Saints. Chastain reached first on a fielder’s choice, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lauderdale and Barrow were walked to score the first run in the inning. Senior Justin Rickett hit an RBI single and Gurley doubled to score the third run of the inning, giving North Georgia a 9-2 advantage.
The highlight of the night came from Rickett in the eighth as he smacked a solo home run over the left field fence and gave the Saints the 10-2 victory.
Saints’ starting freshman pitcher Zach Black (3-2) earned the win allowing only two runs and five hits while tallying seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched. Sophomore James Wilson closed out the remaining two innings for the Saints and allowed no hits and struck out two Trojan batters. Trojans’ pitcher Kevin Young (3-4) received the loss after pitching 2.1 innings and allowing five runs and six hits.
North Georgia will travel to Anderson for another non-conference match-up with the Trojans tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.
