#7 SAINTS BLAST COBRAS IN DOUBLEHEADER

Dahlonega, Ga. - Seventh ranked North Georgia College & State University had an offensive explosion this afternoon as they defeated Virginia Intermont College 16-2 in the first game and 23-2 in the night cap.

The Saints had 38 hits in the two games and 35 RBI's, while the pitching staff only gave up eight hits and one earned run.

In the first game, the Corbra's (0-2) got going in the first inning when sophomore second baseman Chase Watkins (Bluff City, Tenn.) singled in senior center fielder Jason Spina (Bluff City, Tenn.) to give VIC a 1-0 lead. In the third inning North Georgia (2-0) struck back to tie the score, and in the fourth they took the lead for good. Junior left fielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) blasted a three run homer in the sixth inning to give the Saints a 8-1 lead.   North Georgia had four run innings in the seventh and eighth inning to cap off the scoring.

Junior starting pitcher Stephen Flake (Marietta, Ga.) picked up the win for the Saints after pitching six strong innings and striking out eight batters.  Cobra's starter Jesse Poteet (Cleveland, Tenn.) took the loss with four strikeouts and one earned run.

North Georgia wasted not time scoring in the second game as they put six runs on the board in the first inning.  In fifth, the Saints bats were on fire as they scored 10 runs off of eight hits.  Junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) and senior right fielder Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.) each went 3-for-5 from the plate, with Lauderdale legging out a triple and Daigle adding a home run.

Senior starting pitcher Justin Stowe (Marietta, Ga.) got the win for North Georgia after pitching five innings with eight strikeouts and scattering two hits.  Senior starting pitcher Trey Williams (Bristol, Tenn.) took the loss and drops to 0-1 on the season.

These two teams play again tomorrow at noon at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
