In the first game, the Corbra's (0-2) got going in the first inning when sophomore second baseman Chase Watkins (Bluff City, Tenn.) singled in senior center fielder Jason Spina (Bluff City, Tenn.) to give VIC a 1-0 lead. In the third inning North Georgia (2-0) struck back to tie the score, and in the fourth they took the lead for good. Junior left fielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) blasted a three run homer in the sixth inning to give the Saints a 8-1 lead. North Georgia had four run innings in the seventh and eighth inning to cap off the scoring.
Junior starting pitcher Stephen Flake (Marietta, Ga.) picked up the win for the Saints after pitching six strong innings and striking out eight batters. Cobra's starter Jesse Poteet (Cleveland, Tenn.) took the loss with four strikeouts and one earned run.
North Georgia wasted not time scoring in the second game as they put six runs on the board in the first inning. In fifth, the Saints bats were on fire as they scored 10 runs off of eight hits. Junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) and senior right fielder Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.) each went 3-for-5 from the plate, with Lauderdale legging out a triple and Daigle adding a home run. |
