#7 SAINTS SLUG PAST CAVS 13-3
Dahlonega, Ga. – A two home run, six RBI effort from senior right fielder Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.) propelled seventh ranked North Georgia College & State University past UVA-Wise 13-3 this evening at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
After scoring two runs in the first, Daigle knocked his first home run of the game to score three runs in the second. The Saints (26-9) blew the game open in the fourth inning with four runs. After two runs scored by way of wild pitches, Daigle blasted his second home run over the wall to make the score 9-0.
UVA-Wise (3-10) cut the lead to 9-3 in the fifth inning after junior left fielder Will Childress (Huddleston, Va.) knocked in two runs with a single to right field. A third run was scored on a bases loaded balk by junior reliever Skyler Webb (Snellville, Ga.), but Webb forced a grounder and a pop-up to end the inning and stop the rally.
After scoring two runs in the sixth inning, freshman center fielder Ryan Seay (Dawsonville, Ga.) ended the game with a two RBI triple and gave North Georgia the win.
Webb picked up the win after going three and two-third innings in relief. He faced 11 batters and struck out five to even his record at 1-1. Freshman starting pitcher Brock Funk (Independence, Va.) took the loss after going four innings and allowing nine runs off of nine hits.
These two teams will take to the diamond again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the series finale.
