Both teams put runs on the board in the first and third innings. The Eagles (0-4) scored their first run of the game when freshman third baseman Chris Nuckolls (Canton, Ga.) scored on a fielder's choice. The Saints (8-0) responded in the bottom of the first after senior third baseman Kevin Bulger (Snellville, Ga.) scored on a throwing error.
After falling behind 2-1, North Georgia took the lead in the third inning after scoring off of a wild pitch and a balk. It was a pitcher's duel for the next two innings as neither team could get any offense going. In the bottom of the sixth, the Saints bats finally woke up as they pounded out four runs off of four hits. Bulger capped off the innings with a two run double to make the score 7-2 and give North Georgia the win.
Saints sophomore starting pitcher Michael Whiting (Gainesville, Ga.) picked up his first in of the season after going five strong innings. He scattered two hits and allowed only two earned runs while striking out five.
Freshman starter Blair Whitener (Kennesaw, Ga.) took the loss for RC after going four and a third innings and giving up two earned runs off of four hits.
