LEE HANDS #7 NORTH GEORGIA FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON, 3-0
Dahlonega, Ga. - Lee University won its first Southern States Athletic Conference game Friday afternoon as it defeated seventh ranked North Georgia College & State University 3-0 at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
The Flames (3-1, 1-0) scored in the first inning after senior catcher Jimmy Stanfield (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) singled to drive in senior second baseman Jason Spangler (Cleveland, Tenn.).
LU struck again in the third inning after sophomore right fielder Andrew Shaver (Harrison, Tenn.) scored off of a sacrifice fly. The Flames put one more on the board in the seventh inning and gave junior starting pitcher Jon Kirby (Irvine, Ky.) the win.
Kirby pitched five innings and allowed only three hits while striking out five to pick up his first shutout of the season. Saints (7-1, 0-1) junior starter Stephen Flake (Marietta, Ga.) suffered his first loss of the season after pitching six innings and allowing one earned run off of six hits while striking out six batters.
These two teams square off again Saturday at noon for a double-header at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
