EAGLES TAKE FIRST GAME IN 10 INNINGS, 3-2 OVER #7 SAINTS
Dahlonega, Ga. – After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, #7 North Georgia College & State University gave up three runs in the ninth and tenth innings to give Faulkner University the 3-2 win Friday afternoon at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
The Saints (13-5, 3-4) got on the board in the first inning after junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) scored on a double play. Junior first baseman Brett Leja (Miami, Fla.) scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning to give North Georgia a 2-0 lead.
In the ninth inning, the Eagles (12-2, 5-2) bats finally got going and sophomore pinch runner Will Cabaniss (Montgomery, Ala.) scored on an error to cut the lead in half. Junior pinch runner Alex Aucoin (Ocean Springs, Miss.) scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the score and force extra innings.
In Faulkner's half of the tenth inning, junior catcher Nick Stillwagon (Biloxi, Miss.) singled past the short stop with one out to drive in the winning run.
Senior reliever Jason Beasley (Tulsa, Okla.) picked up the win after pitching two innings of shutout ball and allowing only one hit. Junior reliever Skyler Webb (Snellville, Ga.) picked up his first loss of the season after going only one-third of an inning and allowing one earned run off of two hits.
These two teams will go at it again tomorrow in a double header with the first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
