GOOD BLASTS #7 SAINTS PAST LIONS 8-3

Dahlonega, Ga. – Freshman catcher Eric Good (Dahlonega, Ga.) slugged two homers and drove in six of North Georgia College & State University's eight runs as the seventh ranked Saints defeated Freed-Hardeman University 8-3 Wednesday evening at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.

The Lions (18-9) knocked in a run in the first inning after senior shortstop John David Flowers (Lewisburg, Tenn.) scored off of a sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman Robert Matlock (Jackson, Tenn.). FHU picked up another run in the top half of the fourth inning after Matlock scored off of a RBI single.

Lions freshman starter Tyler Newman (Enderson, Tenn.) had a no-hitter going into the fourth inning, but after a single and a walk Good blasted a three run homer to put the Saints (29-10) up 3-2.

In the fifth inning, North Georgia pounded the ball once again and put five runs on the board. A single by sophomore third baseman Justin Rickett (Cumming, Ga.) scored the first run of the inning. Rickett scored one at-bat later after senior right fielder Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.) singled to center field. A single by from junior left fielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) put two runners on base for Good once again, and the freshman delivered yet another three run home run to put the Saints up 8-2.

FHU picked up one more run in the seventh inning off of a sacrifice ground out by freshman second baseman Murri Lazaroff-Babbin (Chico, Calf.) but were unable to cut into the Saints lead anymore.

Sophomore starter Josh Stowe (Marietta, Ga.) picked up his second win of the season and evens his record at 2-2. Stowe went six innings and allowed only two earned runs off of three hits while striking out three batters.

Newman took the loss after going four-and-a-third innings of work and giving up four earned runs off of four hits while striking out two batters.

North Georgia will play conference rival Emmanuel College on the road this weekend in a three game series beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. FHU will take to the field for its first conference series as the Lions take on Trevecca Nazarene on Friday on the road at 2:00 p.m.
