#22 SAINTS SWEEP BARONS WITH 2-1 AND 11-4 WINS

Dahlonega, Ga. – #22 North Georgia College & State University won the final two games of the Southern States Athletic Conference series to sweep Brewton-Parker College. The Saints won the first game 2-1 and the second game 11-4 over the Barons at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.

Game 1

Junior left fielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) put the Saints (38-10, 19-8) up 1-0 in the second inning after scoring on an RBI ground out by junior catcher David Chastain (Canton, Ga.). Another run was scored in the fifth inning after sophomore first baseman Creston Warner (Jacksonville, Fla.) hit an RBI single to center field to put North Georgia up 2-0.

The Barons (21-22, 14-13) cut the lead to one in the sixth inning off of a leadoff home run by junior third baseman Justin Dover (Cartersville, Ga.). Junior reliever Joseph Hardigree (Hull, Ga.) stopped a BPC rally and kept the Saints on top 2-1.

The Barons rallied again in the seventh inning, but freshman center fielder Ryan Seay (Dawsonville, Ga.) grabbed a sure game tying line drive and doubled up the runner on first to end the game and give North Georgia the 2-1 win.

Saints senior starting pitcher Justin Stowe (Marietta, Ga.) went five and two-thirds of an inning to pick up this seventh win of the season. Stowe scattered seven hits and allowed only one earned run. Hardigree got his fourth save of the season after closing out the final inning and a third and allowing only one hit. Senior starter Ashley Hooks (Swainsboro, Ga.) took the loss after allowing two earned runs off of seven hits in six innings of work.

Game 2

North Georgia jumped out to a 3-1 lead after three innings and used a three run fourth inning to take a 7-1 advantage over BPC. In the fifth inning, junior second baseman Jon Donahue (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) blasted a two run homer over the fence to cut the Saints lead to 7-3, but North Georgia ran away with the game in the bottom of the fifth.

Gurley got the rally started with a lead off double to left field and later scored off of a single from senior shortstop Kevin Bulger (Snellville, Ga.). A double by sophomore third baseman Justin Rickett (Cumming, Ga.) put two more runs on the board followed by a bases loaded walk to add another run. A Gurley single scored the final run of the inning to make the score 11-3 with two innings left to play.

Senior shortstop Ashley Hooks (Swainsboro, Ga.) homered in the seventh inning, but the Baron's were unable to muster any more runs as senior reliever Ryan Garmon (Dahlonega, Ga.) closed out the game.

Senior starter Jason Willard (Columbus, Ga.) scattered five hits and allowed only two earned runs for his ninth victory of the season. Freshman starter Millard Grant (Wacross, Ga.) took the loss after going one-third of an inning and allowing five earned runs off of four hits.
