#7 SAINTS USE STRONG 7TH INNING TO GET PAST RAMS 10-5
Dahlonega, Ga. –With six runs in the seventh inning, the seventh ranked Saints of North Georgia College & State University defeated visiting Bluefield College 10-5 in afternoon baseball action at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
Each team put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Ramblin' Rams (1-5) took the lead with a RBI single from sophomore short stop Tyler Fridley (Covington, Va.) in the second inning.
The Saints (9-2) tied the score in the third inning junior left fielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) singled up the middle to drive in junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.). Each team scored again in the fifth inning to keep the score tied 3-3, and then North Georgia took the lead in the sixth inning off of a sacrifice fly by Gurley.
Both teams had big innings in the eight as BC scored two runs to take a 5-4 lead. A couple of RBI singles from senior left fielder Cecil Hagwood (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior pinch hitter Bo Eldridge (Richmond, Va.) gave the Rams a one run lead. The Saints responded in the bottom half of the inning in a big way by putting six runs on the board to seal the victory. North Georgia put all six runs on the board before a single out was recorded was recorded in the inning and gave senior reliever Ryan Garmon (Dahlonega, Ga.) all the support he needed to finish out the ball game for the Saints.
Gurley led North Georgia with five RBI's after going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring one run. Hagwood led BC at the plate after going 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Garmon picked up the win for North Georgia after pitching one and a third inning and striking out one batter. Junior reliever Blake Williams (Tappahannock, Va.) took the loss after pitching one inning and surrendering two earned runs.
These two teams square off again tomorrow at the NGCSU Baseball Complex with game time set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
