TROJANS BLAST #18 SAINTS 16-8
Dahlonega, Ga. – Knocking 18 hits for 16 runs and capitalizing off of four NGCSU errors, Anderson College dismantled 18th ranked North Georgia College & State University 16-8 Wednesday night at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.
Only one AC starter did not have a hit in the game and nine different players scored runs in the game. Freshman designated hitter Clint Neville (McDonough, Ga.) led the Trojans (17-25) charge with three RBI's and two hits after going 3-for-5 from the plate. Senior shortstop Jeremy McCauley (Pelzer, S.C.) produced six runs for AC after going 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBI's. Junior right fielder Cody Nye (Saluda, S.C.) had a single and a triple for AC and knocked in two runs while scoring two as well.
The Saints (39-11) fell down 4-0 early in the ball game, but tied the score in the fifth inning. The Trojans then scored a run in the sixth and seventh inning. North Georgia scored in the bottom of the sixth and the two teams traded two runs in the eighth inning. AC broke the game wide open in the ninth inning after scoring seven runs with one out before the inning ended with a nine run lead. The Saints picked up a single run in the ninth, but were unable to climb any closer before the final out.
Junior starting pitcher Aaron Griffith (Greenville, Ga.) picked up the win after going six innings and allowing only four earned runs off eight hits while striking out three. Sophomore starting pitcher Michael Whiting (Gainesville, Ga.) took the loss for the Saints.
The Saints play again this weekend as they head to Marietta to take on Southern Polytechnic State University in a three game series beginning Friday at 2:00 p.m. Anderson will travel to Lander University on Thursday for a game at 6:00 p.m.
