Warner, a 6-1 sophomore first baseman from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .500 in four games after going 8-for-16 with three home runs and eight RBI's. He went 2-for-3 in the Saints 1-0 victory over #25 Southern Polytechnic State University and scored the winning run. He also hit two home runs in the final game of the series and had a slugging percentage of 1.063 this past week. For the year, Warner is batting .347 with 33 runs and 34 RBI's and has four home runs this season.
Willard, a 6-0 senior starting pitcher from Columbus, Ga., pitched a two hit, complete game shutout to give the 18th ranked Saints a 1-0 victory over the Hornets. Willard struck out nine batters and did not allow a single walk in the contest as he improved to 10-2 on the year and lowed his ERA to 1.73. He has stuck out 72 batters so far this season and is second in the conference in strikeouts and fourth in ERA.
This marks the first time this year that student/athletes from the same school have won Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week for baseball. North Georgia, 41-12 overall and 21-9 in the SSAC, plays again today at home against Piedmont College at 7:00 p.m. |
